About The Event

After traveling west from Indiana in the early 1870s in search of the perfect place to settle, Amos and Hannah Root purchased farm ground near the tiny village of Mosier, Oregon. They spent the next 45 years developing the farm, rearing eight children, and becoming an integral part of their community. Their lives ended on the same day in a shocking tragedy, but their legacy continues in the lives of their descendants.

Doris J. Lewis Smith is a great-granddaughter of Amos and Hannah Root and she is proud to call Mosier her hometown. She graduated from Mosier High School and Oregon State University and spent 26 years as an elementary teacher in both Oregon and Idaho. She and her husband Harry live in The Dalles, Oregon. This is her second published work.
