About The Event
Shells and Texture in Hand Built Clay with Peny Wallace
In this hand-building class for adults and children, participants will explore how clay twists, folds and curves. And because of its soft quality can be pushed into, cut away and added onto. We will explore and experiment with texture. Our inspiration will be ocean shells, they are full of twists, folds, cut-aways and parts that poke out. We will explore our shell compositions as sculpture with the final form becoming a sculptural box.
The Sculptural Shells will be kiln fired and sealed with oxides reflecting the natural colors that is their environment.

Instructor Bio:
I am a recently retired high school Ceramics Teacher and have relished in the creative time. I now have to explore, experiment and practice with my own mediums and I am a practicing artist. I am truly inspired in the sharing of the visual image and exploration experientially and working with clay offers both a satisfaction and a meditation.
I enjoy working in three mediums: clay, life casting and painting. Each gives a different interpretation to the visual image, to how I see life. And each offers a different sets of aesthetic awareness that I want to bring to the viewer and to explore myself in the process of creating.
