Painting or Drawing with Photography with Chris Pothier

This is an 8-week class starting on Tuesday, March 5th occurring every Tuesday from 11 am - 1 pm through Tuesday, April 23rd.

Photography plays a massive role when it comes to producing 2-dimensional art. Whether drawing or painting, the use of a photograph can help one create the view and vision that inspires us. But, there are many tricks and tips to use so that your artwork doesn’t look like a photograph. Whether it’s changing the composition, eliminating unnecessary objects, creating depth and atmospheric perspective, using these methods can take your skills to the next level.

This class is for intermediate or advanced students in any drawing or painting medium desired.

Instructor:

Chris Pothier has made his living as an artist/painter for 24 years. Using oil as his primary medium, he paints the figure, in a semi-classical, narrative way. He also paints many portraits and other commissioned works of art and even (occasionally) some really large murals. Originally from eastern Massachusetts, he settled in The Dalles with his wife, Kathy, and three sons in 2016 and consider this their permanent home. Chris has exhibited his paintings across the US and also at the European Museum of Modern Art and The US Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. What to Bring:

Bring any paint materials or tools you may have, including brushes, palette knives, oil paint or medium and canvas boards or panels you have already. Please bring in any photographs that you are looking to create paintings from. Digital files are recommended. Make sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, but we will have aprons, if needed.
