About The Event
Are you interested in learning how to meditate? Whether you're in the midst of a crisis or life is going along smoothly, meditation is a key to maintaining an inner calm no matter what is going on around you. Children taught mindfulness meditation performed better academically and curbed disruptive behaviors. In this meditation group you will see what's going on in your brain and how to calm the turmoil. It's easier than you think.
Do you know why the Buddha sat cross legged when he meditated? It's not that there's a particular position required. He sat like that because there were no chairs in India at that time. We have chairs at TDAC ! If you prefer to sit on the floor, please bring a mat. This is not a class on Buddhism. It is open to people of all faiths. It is to learn how to silence the crazy mind and experience greater inner peace. We will practice silent meditation, guided meditations, and walking meditation.
Instructor Nancy Turner M. Ed. began insight meditation in her early twenties, over fifty years ago. She traveled to Nepal and Tibet and is a thangka painter. Fifteen years ago she co-led a group of twenty Americans to Thailand for a month, visiting numerous monasteries around the country. She is a co-founder of the Portland Insight Meditation Center in Portland, Oregon.
