Let’s Weave an Egg Basket– Beginner (with a little patience)
Join instructor Chris Bush as she teaches you how to weave The Small Egg Basket. This style of basket has historically been used to gather eggs.
Time & Location
Oct 07, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
The Dalles, 220 E 4th St #2206, The Dalles, OR 97058, USA
About The Event
The Small Egg Basket is woven on an oval and round hoop, and measures approximately 6”x8” and about 7” tall. The weaving is a continuous weave over ribs that are placed behind the God’s Eye. The God’s Eye is the diamond shaped weaving that holds the two hoops together as well as creates a tension hold for the ribs. This style of basket would have historically been used to gather eggs. The lobes on each side of the hoop create a nesting area for the eggs to lay without rolling around like they would in a flat bottom basket. You will have the opportunity to choose your own accent color. Bring a sack lunch.
About the instructor:
Chris is a basket weaver and a quilter. She started weaving in early 2012 when she wanted a mental break from working full time and going to college full time. She started sewing at an early age with her grandmother sitting at a Singer treadle machine which began her love of crafting. This love for crafting and making carried through her life as a military spouse and mother of two. In 2017 friends began requesting her to give classes because there were very few places to learn this craft. So, she created Twisted Fibers Baskets and Quilts and started teaching in 2018.
Chris has been in the Pacific Northwest since 2004 and teaches classes in Washington and now Oregon. You can find some of her creations on her Insta page @twisted.fibers.bq or Facebook @TwistedFibersBasketry and www.twistedfibersbasketry.com
Basket weaving is a craft of old, made in many forms and created in every country on this earth. Come take a class and learn the basics of basket weaving. You will not be disappointed and will never look at a basket the same again.
