Learn how to create a versatile, colorful fabric bowl. Finished bowl is approximately 3” high x 7” wide. Your finished bowl will be made of the different fabrics you bring and is a great way to use up your extra fabric pieces. This class is limited to 4 people so everyone will get the time and attention they need to be successful. Cathleen is a wonderful teacher and you do not need prior experience to participate.
This class requires a sewing machine so best for folks who are already sewers/quilters or who own a machine and want to learn to a new activity. This is a great class for people who have always wanted to make something with fabric but haven't found the right format.
Bring to the class:
- $5 for materials cost
- Sewing machine that can do zigzag stitching
- 1/2 yard of cotton fabric (can be scraps from previous projects, 2 fat
- quarters, old clothes) cut into 3/4" strips (length doesn't matter, but
- longer than 10" is a good idea). If the material isn't cut on the bias,
- it'll fray a bit as you go along; not a big deal, just means it'll
- require some clean-up at the end.
- Thread
- Clips
- Other materials will be provided.
About the instructor:
Cathy's sister is a quilter -- hundreds of them a year, some for Quilts of Valor, some for foster children, many for gifts. But Cathy is not, by any stretch, a quilter. Quilting requires much more precision than she possesses. On a visit, Cathy admired a fabric bowl and asked how it was made. So her sister gave her a basic Singer sewing machine and a book called It's a Wrap, Sewing Fabric Purses, Baskets and Bowls by Susan Breier. After many failed attempts and watching
several youtube videos, Cathy figured out how to make the fabric bowls. She now teaches this art form to make it easier for others to learn.
