About The Event

Columbia Center for the Arts and The Dalles Art Center are excited to announce the first in an ongoing collaborative Biennial, each focused on a different medium. The first of these bienniels will highlight ceramic work from around the Pacific Northwest and will be open to artists residing in Oregon and Washington. Beyond the Construct is an opportunity to showcase the expressive and functional capacities of clay. Beyond the Construct will be exhibited at CCA and TDAC in May of 2021.

Selected work will be shown alongside work by Maya Vivas, Ivan Carmona, Lisa Conway, Dirk Staschke, Willie Little, Baba Wague Diakite, PK Hoffman, Joe Davis, Stacy Jo Scott, Aisha Harrison. Juried artists will be invited to exhibit two pieces of work: (1) piece representing the functional aspect of their practice, and (1) piece representing the expressive side.

As two rural community art centers, TDAC and CCA wish to offer artists based in the Pacific Northwest an opportunity to exhibit their work alongside other regional artists producing work in clay. Artists who's work is accepted will be considered for additional opportunities at both centers. In addition, one artist will be selected by Brett Binford for a solo show to be held at The Dalles Art Center in 2022.
