About The Event

Join Louise Sargent and Teresa Hepker every Sunday in April to learn the basics of batik.

Batik is an ancient art dating back to the time of the pharaohs. In this four-day class, you will design and create three projects to develop your skills using several waxing and dyeing techniques. Each project will build on the previous one to improve your skills and understanding. No previous experience is required. Students who have completed a previous class will gain more experience and practice.

This is a hands-on class and the technique is messy. Bring an apron and/or wear old clothes, rubber gloves, and a dust mask to protect you from dyes and chemical dusts while mixing solutions.

About the Instructors:

Louise Sargent has been involved in art her entire life. She has been involved with many mediums, from silkscreening to stained glass. Her

good friend Teresa gave me a baby blanket in 1979 (which her daughter still has). From then on, she wanted to

learn batik. It only took a small twist of Teresa's arm and Two Foxes Studio was off running!

For Teresa Hepker, arts and crafts have been a lifelong source of fun. She did her first batiks in about 1975, and revisited the

art form several times during her working years. She is entirely self-taught, with the help of what books she could find at the time.

After retirement, they joined together as Two Foxes Studio. They look forward to sharing this art form with more people.
