The world has completely shifted since the last open call exhibit at The Dalles Art Center. Since then events have been jarring to our lives and practices. This has been compounded by the isolation imposed by the shelter-in-place directive. One of the casualties is shared creativity and connection to art. Now more than ever, artists can be the force that brings people together. It is also the time that creatives need to show the value of art and all of its forms as a means to connect, to heal and to help illuminate positivity in the community.

TDAC wants to exhibit the work that you have been making in the past few months! It has been fascinating to talk with various artists about the work that they have been creating. Some of you have been painting the scenes of your walks in nature. Some of you have been making work in response to COVID-19 or the Black Lives Matter movement. Some of you have developed a practice integrated with social media. All of the work created during this time is important in order to continue the connection to each other and to our individual creativity. If you have not been in a creative practice, consider challenging yourself to make a piece in the next few weeks.

Submissions:  Any Medium. No size restrictions. Up to 3 pieces.

Procedures:  This will not be a juried exhibition with prizes or entry fees. Work will be curated by the TDAC Director.

The Dalles Art Center is excited to announce the first open juried show of 2020:  Nurtured Spaces. This is a continuation of TDAC’s traditional Spring garden themed show. In 2019 artists explored the connection of nurturing potential in nature and in humanity. This year we are asking you to explore the spaces that we nurture and that nurture us. What does a nurtured space mean to you? Artwork could range from images of gardens to repurposed metal sculptures to multi-media expressions.

The exhibit is a collaboration with The Master Gardeners and the City of The Dalles Beautification Committee. Master Gardeners will be hosting the opening and will be on hand with information on gardening and their program offerings. This is an effort to support the community initiative put forth by Mayor Rich Mays with his Beautification Committee. Please join us in the exploration of nurtured spaces in The Dalles by entering your work in this exhibition.

Nurtured Spaces is an open juried show in March 2020. Artwork will be accepted from February 25th to February 29th. Please you the entry form below for your submission.
