Learn the traditional art of making felt with wool and other fibers.  First time felters will have the opportunity to learn the basic method of wet felting by making three light scarves out of soft merino wool, blended natural fibers, and silk threads.

We will learn three different felting techniques.  The first project will be cobweb scarf which demonstrates the basic process of wet felting.  Next, a traditional shingled layout technique.  The third scarf will demonstrate a fusion of these two techniques for a unique scaffold scarf.

Making the scarves will teach you how to layout wool roving and to embellish with other fibers, creating your own design.  We will go through the entire process of wetting and fulling the fiber to make three lovely felt scarves for you to take home.  The knowledge and experience gained of the techniques learned making the scarves will provide a good foundation for the next, intermediate class, making a wet felted vest.

The class fee includes all the supplies needed to make three scarves, and the tools to take home to continue your exploration of this satisfying medium. Nancy will provide high quality merino wool, silk and other specialty fibers, fancy embellishments, and all the tools and other supplies you will need for the class.  You are welcome to bring your own supplies from home to use or to trade with other class members.
