Youth Art Classes
Ages 6-13

Dramatic Picture Frames: Artists will paint and decorate dramatic picture frames for favorite works of art. Thursday, October 30, 3:15-4:30. $15.

Block Printing: Artists will hand-draw and carve block prints that will be used for cards and clothing. Artists may bring a t-shirt to the second class to print on (optional). Two-week class, Thursday, November 13 & 20, 3:15-4:30, $30.

Silk Painting: Artists will create beautiful silk paintings that can be given as gifts or used to decorate a home. Thursday, December 4, 3:15-4:30. $15.

Acrylics: Artists will learn about composition and painting technique with acrylics on canvas. Artists may bring a photo or sketch for ideas on what to paint. Thursday, December 11, 3:15-4:30. $15.

All classes are taught by Sarah Starr, who just recently taught many of our classes during 2008's Art Camp. All materials will be provided by the instructor. All classes will take place at The Dalles Art Center. To register for these classes, please contact the gallery.


Adult Art Classes

Acrylics: Artists will learn about some of the details of acrylic painting on canvas. Saturday, November 15, 10-12. $20. Taught by Sarah Starr. All materials provided.

Painting Better Landscapes: Focus will be on composition and using clean colors. Instructor will be using professional pastel but the techniques discussed apply to all mediums.

Saturday, November 22, from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm with a 1 hour lunch at noon.
Tuition: $50. Materials Fee: $5, covers all materials. Taught by Diana McElheran.


Youth and Adult Classes

Holiday Origami for the Whole Family: This class is for adults and kids alike and family groups are encouraged. Students will make origami holiday ornaments and origami greeting cards.

Tuition: $20 for adult-child combos, $15 for adult or child alone. Adults with multiple children: $20 for you and the first child and only $5 for each additional child! $5 deal only applies to groups with attending adult.

When: Wednesday, December 10th, 3:30-5pm.

Summer Art Camp

Every summer, The Dalles Art Center hosts Summer Art Camp, which allows students to take a variety of art classes from local Gorge artists. Art Camp began in 2006 with the help of a grant from the Wasco County Cultural Trust. Three years later, Art Camp has more than doubled its class listings and offers tuition-discount scholarships for families at need.

This year, Art Camp took place during July and August and concluded in an art reception on August 22nd. 2008 marked the first year that we added teen classes to the curriculum. Students chose from a variety of class subjects including ceramics, landscape painting, Japanese fish printing, pastels, watercolors, mosaics, silk painting, mask-making, and much more!

Class Registration Information

 PRE-REGISTRATION.  Students must pre-register and pay all fees to reserve a space in the desired class or workshop. There are both minimum and maximum numbers of students for each class. When mailing your registration, make sure your payment accompanies the registration form. Registering by phone requires VISA or Master Card.

 REFUND POLICY.  If The Dalles Art Center cancels a class (generally due to low enrollment), a full refund will be given. Full refund withdrawals (minus a $5 registration fee) require student notice of four or more days prior to the start of the class.  A 50% refund will be given for withdrawals one to three days before the start of class.  No refunds are granted for missed classes or withdrawals made on or after the first day of class.
