The Sales Gallery occupies the eastern half of the Art Center. We feature the work of local artists, which we define as people living within a 100 mile radius of The Dalles (there are a few exceptions for artists who have ties to the area). Art work is sold on a commission basis. The commission rate for members of The Dalles Art Association is 30%, for non-members it is 40%.
Artists who wish to be juried into the sales gallery should bring 3-5 pieces of their work (representative of what they would like to have in the gallery and presented as it would be offered for sale) to the Art Center for jurying. Artists should include a resume/bio and/or artist statement with their work. There is a form, available at the Art Center, that jurying artists should fill out as well.
Jurying is done on a monthly basis during the Board of Directors' regular monthly board meetings, which are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Once an artist is accepted into the sales gallery, he/she is welcome to bring in work for sale, understanding that the Art Center reserves the right to choose what is displayed (typically, no more than 3 pieces from any 1 artist should be shown at once to maintain gallery balance). It is the artist's responsibility to rotate their work on a regular basis (preferably every 3 months). The Art Center does not have any resale. Accepted Sales Gallery artists may be called to pick up their unsold works at any time.
